Claude projects, skills, connectors and memory explained
The words you will hear when Claude is set up in a business, explained for owners rather than developers.
Projects
A project is a workspace with its own instructions and files. Everything you do inside it starts from that context, so you do not repeat yourself.
A service business usually has one project per client or per department: one for sales, one for operations, one per major client account.
Skills
A skill is a saved way of doing a repeated job, so it comes out the same every time. It holds the steps, the format and the examples.
Quotes, proposals, weekly reports and client updates are the classic skills. Write it once, and anyone in the team gets the same result.
Connectors
Connectors are the links between Claude and your tools: Gmail, Google Drive, Slack, your CRM and so on. They let Claude read and act on real information rather than whatever you paste in.
Most businesses start with email and calendar, then add files and the CRM. That is where most of the admin lives.
Memory
Memory is what Claude carries between conversations: preferences, decisions, things it has learned about how you work.
For a business, memory is what stops it feeling like a new temp every morning. Paired with the brief, it keeps output consistent.
Scheduled tasks
Scheduled tasks are work that runs on a timer, without anyone asking. A Monday plan, a daily inbox triage, a Friday pipeline check.
This is the step that turns Claude from an assistant into an operator. More in Claude scheduled tasks and dashboards.
Claude Code
Claude Code is for developers: building and changing software with Claude.
Most service businesses never need it directly. It matters if you have in-house software or a developer who wants to move faster.
How they fit together
The brief sits over everything. Projects organise the work, skills make it repeatable, connectors give it reach, memory keeps it consistent, and schedules make it run without you.
